Ms. Murphy is an editor with over 5 years of technical writing and editing experience.  At PAI Consulting, she uses this experience to write, edit, format, and review a variety of technical and regulatory documents.  Ms. Murphy edits documents for spelling, punctuation, grammar, style, and readability in accordance with the U.S. Government Publishing Office Style Manual, the Chicago Manual of Style, and PAI’s internal style guide.

Ms. Murphy’s editorial career began in 1999 as a writer and associate editor of Field Force Automation and copy editor of CRM (Customer Relationship Management), two monthly trade magazines in the Freedom Technology Media Group.  In this role, she served as a contributing author, fact-checker, copy editor, and proofreader.  Ms. Murphy was the final editorial eye for both publications, prioritizing tasks as needed to meet the varying print deadlines.  She also was the point of contact for freelance writers.  In this capacity, Ms. Murphy managed their assignments and deadlines and was responsible for maintaining positive professional relationships between Freedom Technology Media Group and its freelance authors.

Between 2002 and 2003, Ms. Murphy authored two 50,000-word instructional books for Mountain Lion, Inc.—Winning Field Hockey for Girls and Winning Lacrosse for Girls.
In 2005, The New York Public Library selected Winning Lacrosse for Girls as its “Book for the Teen Age.”  Through her experience as an instructional author, Ms. Murphy developed a stronger foundation for understanding the importance of accuracy and clarity in technical writing.

From 2004 through 2015, Ms. Murphy worked in secondary education.  During this time, she was a 9th and 12th grade English teacher, assistant director of athletics, and head field hockey and lacrosse coach at the Portsmouth Abbey School in Rhode Island; the director of athletics at Wilmington Friends School in Delaware; and the assistant director of athletics and head field hockey and lacrosse coach at Saint John Paul the Great Catholic High School in Virginia.  As a high school English teacher, Ms. Murphy taught the principles of academic and SAT essay writing alongside a literature curriculum including The Odyssey, Beowulf, The Old Man and the Sea, A Tale of Two Cities, The Grapes of Wrath, Nineteen Eighty-Four, and selected Shakespeare plays.

In 2018, Ms. Murphy began a freelance editing career by volunteering her editing and meeting specialist skills in support of military spouses attending the Okinawa Leadership Seminar (which is part of the Leadership Education Seminar program in the United States).  She was responsible for collecting, editing, and organizing all presentation materials into individual binders for each participant.  Ms. Murphy also managed the administrative elements of organizing and hosting the conference, including taking and distributing committee meeting notes, managing participant applications and registration, tracking attendee RSVPs and attendance, and distributing and collecting daily participant feedback forms.

After supporting the Okinawa Leadership Seminar, Ms. Murphy began serving clients in the healthcare, horticultural, education, and defense industries.  She edited print brochures and mailings for both healthcare and horticultural clients, focusing on grammar, punctuation, formatting, and consistency across multiple publications.  At Inksplash, Ms. Murphy edited academic examinations with both print and online components, focusing on spelling, grammar, punctuation, and consistency in the exam questions and answer choices.  For this client, she also edited exam content for cultural and gender biases for exam materials implemented outside the United States.  At GEX, Inc., Ms. Murphy edited scripts for the conversion of text exam material to online test form.  At Mission Critical Psychological Services, Inc., she edited personnel evaluations for spelling, grammar, and content.
